Creating and Exporting our Logos

We will create three unique logos using three different approaches in this part of the workshop. Finally, we will export our artboards as .png and .eps files.

Logo Workflow A: Using shapes with a reference sketch

Synopsis: We will use the shape and pathfinder tools to create a logo with this approach. Additionally, we will use text to accompany the logo. We will reference sketch 1.

Duration: 5 minutes

Keyboard shortcuts

  • A – to select the Direct Selection tool.
  • V – to select the Selection tool.
  • Cmnd/Ctrl + Z to undo.
  • Cmnd/Ctrl + C to copy.
  • Cmnd/Ctrl + V to paste.
  • Cmnd/Ctrl + G to group.

Logo Workflow B: Tracing a reference sketch

Synopsis: In this approach, we will use the pen tool to trace sketch 2. We will use text to accompany the logo and the Text Envelope functionality in the text panel.

Duration: 5 minutes

Logo Workflow C: Applying the Image Trace Tool to a reference sketch

Synopsis: In this approach, we will use the Image Trace tool to transform our illustration into a vector object.

Duration: 3 minutes

Exporting Our Logos

Synopsis: We are now ready to export our logo artboards. We will export two versions for each artboard: a .png (bitmap) version and a .eps (vector) version. In total, we will export six files.
