WordPress Part 1: Structure your site and content

Overview

You’re reached that point in the course where you’ll take your website design plan and translate it into a functional WordPress site. You’ll use our secure procomblogs.ca system throughout this build-out phase. We’ve loaded our WordPress service up with a number of premium (paid) plugins that aren’t available on the free WordPress.com site.

In order for you to begin this phase, we’ve automatically created your personal WordPress website address and set you up as the site administrator. You’ll exit this module with a sense of how to structure your website, add content to it, and customize the look and feel of your website.

You’ll exit this module knowing how to:

  1. Login — as the administrator — to your personal WordPress dashboard.
  2. Configure WordPress site settings (such as a title, privacy settings, etc…).
  3. Create WordPress pages and integrate them into a menu.
  4. Add text and multimedia content to your pages.
  5. Select a responsive site theme.

Tips

  • This module can be completed in short bursts, or all at once — just make sure that you’re following all of the steps in order as they build on one another.
  • Before you start the training below, review your website design brief + sitemap (you’ll be using it to build your website).
  • View the videos in “full screen”.
  • Ensure that you haven’t missed a critical step in the workflow by filling out the interactive checklists at the end of each module.
